Dear St. Paul Catholic Church Parishioners,

In a joint meeting between Parish and Finance Councils on August 20th, 2026, a vote was held to move forward with a full roof replacement for our Church Campus due to persistent water leaks reported in multiple areas of our facilities in recent years. We are now ready to begin this essential project.

Why now? Finance Council has confirmed that we are not eligible for warranty repairs offered with the 2014 installation.  Finance Council obtained 4 bids from area contractors, and has received approval from the Archdiocese of Dubuque  to move forward with the contractor selected. Replacing the roof will repair existing damage, prevent leaks, and protect the facilities we share for worship, and parish life.

Who will complete the work? Great Lakes Roofing Corporation based in Cedar Rapids, IA. This contractor's bid was most thorough, and they have the size and scale to complete this project in a timely fashion. The project is expected to begin in late September. What is the project scope? Total shingle replacement of the Church, Parish Center, and rectory. The accepted bid includes full removal of waste, new materials, inspection of roof decking for deterioration and replacement of the rubber flat, and clean-up of the job site. The new shingles carry a lifetime material warranty, a Class 3 impact rating, and a 110-mph wind rating. Labor is warranted by the vendor for 2 years.

How can I help? The total estimated cost o this project is $100,000. Thankfully, St. Paul is blessed to be in a financial position to complete the project without borrowing money. However, it is expensive and will draw down funds significantly. To ensure we remain in a strong financial position, we are aiming to fundraise as much of the project as possible. This will ensure we can absorb unpredictable maintenance issues moving forward. Currently, the Bingo Fundraiser is our only annual event and it raises approximately $1000.00/year.

How can I give? You can ensure your gift is restricted to this project by giving through the church website under "Funds" and then "Special Projects". Add a note indicating your gift is for St. Paul Roof Replacement. You can also enclose your gift in your regular St. Paul offertory envelope that is marked in the same fashion. Unmarked gifts left in the weekly offertory baskets are unrestricted, and is routed to the Marshalltown Pastorate's General Fund.
